The Common Bottlenose Dolphin highlights two forms of Negative Impact: Pollution and Habitat Degredation
The grey Common Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), is at Least Concern status worldwide, however, certain subpopulations in the Mediterranean Sea are struggling. One threat caused by humans that has had a significant impact on this species is pollution. Match the types of pollution to the correct impact on these dolphins:
Dr. Jessica Alessi is a marine biologist specialised in Cetaceans. She is the founder of Me.Ri.S, a research center in Agrigento, Sicily, that aims to raise awareness and conduct research on marine life, an not only marine mammals.
Incase you didn't know 5 "R" words, she can tell you: "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Reduce, Remove"
Join Me.Ri.S and Jessica Alessi as she takes you on a trip to be a Researcher! She often organizes educational activities with youth in order to share this exciting STEM career. She is an expert on Cetaceans, and in this video she has "help" from bottlenose dolphins to show you how incredible a marine career can be, link.
Did you discover 50 out of 100? In Jessica’s research she has found the same thing you just discovered! Half or 50% of the Bottlenose Dolphin habitat has floating debris. This poses a problem for all aquatic species, not just the cetaceans!
Summary: We've learned about common bottlenose dolphins, pollution and habitat degradation, and positive ways we can make a difference.
