Winners are invited to Brussels, Belgium, to participate in a multi-day Science Projects Workshop (SPW) in the Future Classroom Lab of the European Schoolnet, organised by Scientix and its partner projects.
This annual initiative has two version, one for younger students with resources to learn about climate change, and another for older students where they carry out projects to study climate change or other anthropogenic impacts, using the Copernicus browser, link.
In both options, at the conclusion of the project the students and school can be awarded a certificate of participation, and for the older students there is also the possibility to win recognition at the European or country level. Students selected as national winners of ESA's Climate Detectives project can be invited to the Climate Detectives Summit at ESA ESRIN in Frascati, where they take part in hands-on workshops and activities with Earth-observation experts.
Every year there are new resources available through Sea Beyond, a project from the Prada group that is dedicated to ocean literacy and environmental education since 2019. These initiatives are in partnership with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO.
The project also has an annual educational module, link, that changes theme each year (in 2026 it was "Poles to Tropics: One Planet, One Future"). Secondary School teachers can participate with their students, use the resources and participate in the webinars, and develop a student-led initiative to make a difference. Final projects submitted before the annual deadline are elegible to participate in an international award competition with prizes.
